It may be enough for some groups of patients, however, in many cases medications become inevitable.

There is a number of medicines that lower cholesterol levels and they include the following:

  1. They are usually prescribed to most patients as they are the only drugs associated with reducing the risks of strokes and heart attacks.
  2. Resins (or bile acid-binding meds) tend to bind to bile produced by cholesterol and get rid of it completely.
  3. Selective cholesterol absorption inhibitors. These drugs prevent cholesterol absorption from the intestine lowering bad and raising good cholesterol.
  4. Lipid lowering therapy. It includes fibrates, niacin, Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids which successfully fight increased cholesterol levels.

It is important to consult a healthcare provider before deciding to administer any cholesterol-lowering drug, as self-treatment may cause serious harm to your health.
