Mental Disorders

The right choice of effective treatments for mental disorders depends on their type, severity and other factors.

Basically, some of the most popular prescription medications taken to treat these conditions include the following:

  1. Antidepressants that are taken to treat anxiety, depression and other mental conditions. They work by improving such annoying symptoms as hopelessness, sadness, difficulty concentrating, lack of energy, lack of interest, etc. These meds aren’t addictive and their use doesn’t cause any dependency.
  2. Anti-anxiety drugs are taken to treat different anxiety disorders, including panic disorder. They help patients decrease their insomnia and agitation, and they provide users with both short-term and long-term relief. Unfortunately, some of them have a potential to result in dependency, so they shouldn’t be taken on an ongoing basis.
  3. Mood-stabilizing pills that are commonly used to treat specific bipolar disorders that involve such alternating episodes as depression and mania. At times, doctors prescribe mood stabilizers to treat other mental conditions, too.
  4. Antipsychotic meds are taken to treat all kinds of psychotic disorders.
